Important
Get medical help immediately if there is difficulty breathing, changes in consciousness, seizure, stiff neck, blue or red spots on the skin that do not fade when pressed, severe dehydration, the child looks very unwell, or if babies under 3 months have a fever.
🌡
Fever
Drink, observe, do not overheat.
Help right away
Dress the child lightly, keep the room comfortably cool, offer small sips regularly.
Give fever medicine only according to age and weight, following the package or medical advice; do not give ASS to children.
Home remedies
Use lukewarm calf wraps only with very high fever, warm legs and no shivering.
Do not use vinegar wraps or vinegar socks in children; they can irritate or damage the skin.
Call a doctor
For babies under 3 months from 38 °C, fever over 40 °C, fever lasting longer than 3 days, or if the child looks very ill.
🤧
Cold and cough
Clear nose, fluids, rest.
Help right away
Saline nose drops or spray can moisten the nose; gently remove mucus in babies.
Warm drinks and humid air in the room can feel pleasant.
Important
Honey can ease cough, but only for children from 1 year of age.
Do not give over-the-counter cough and cold medicines to children under 4 years without medical advice.
🍵
Sore throat
Gentle drinking, gargling only if safely possible.
Help right away
Offer warm fluids, soft foods, and rest.
Older children can gargle with salt water or sage tea if they can safely spit it out.
Call a doctor
If there is difficulty breathing, drooling, feeling very unwell, rash, high fever, or if drinking is hardly possible.
🫖
Stomach pain
Warmth, rest, small sips.
Help right away
Let the child lie down, offer small sips of water, place gentle warmth on the belly.
Light food: rice, banana, toast, soup or thin Dal if there is appetite.
Call a doctor
If the pain is severe or on the right side, the belly is hard, there is blood in the stool, repeated vomiting, fever, or increasing weakness.
💧
Diarrhea
Fluids are the most important.
Help right away
Give frequent small sips; with more severe diarrhea use oral rehydration solution (ORS).
Continue breastfeeding or keep offering small, light meals.
Call a doctor
If there is no urine for many hours, dry mouth, no tears, blood in the stool, high fever, or diarrhea lasting longer than 24 hours in young children.
🌾
Constipation
Water, fiber, movement.
Help right away
Offer water, increase fruit and vegetables, encourage physical activity.
Plan calm toilet time after meals, without pressure or shame.
Call a doctor
If there is severe pain, blood, vomiting, weight loss, or repeated constipation.
🦟
Insect bites
Cool, do not scratch, watch for infection.
Help right away
Apply a cool cloth, keep fingernails short, avoid scratching.
For itching, an age-appropriate cream from the pharmacy or as advised by a doctor can help.
Emergency
Get help immediately if there is difficulty breathing, swelling of lips/face/neck, weakness, loss of consciousness, or hives all over the body.
🧘
Headache
Fluids, rest, reduce light.
Help right away
Offer water, create a quiet darker room, take a break from screens.
See a doctor after a fall, with fever, vomiting, stiff neck, or unusual tiredness.
🌙
Sleep problems
Calm repetition instead of a struggle.
Help in the evening
Keep a similar sequence every evening: wash, teeth, quiet story, dim the lights.
Avoid active play, loud videos, and heavy meals shortly before sleep.
